Orlando air is wet most of the year. Skin and satin do not agree for long on a walk from a parking garage to a hotel foyer. A strap that sat in place in air-conditioning can travel off the shoulder before you reach the door. That is a fitting problem, not a surprise at cocktail hour.
The walk from the car
International Drive, a downtown garage, a resort lot: the walk is short and the air is heavy. Shoulders pick up humidity. A skinny strap, a cold-shoulder cut, or a dress that was pinned in a dry room will tell you on that walk. Lift a bag, pull a wrap, climb a curb. Those are the same motions you will make on the night.
We mark strap length with those motions, not only with arms at rest. If a wrap stays on until you are inside, bring the wrap so the strap is not planned as if the shoulder were bare the whole way.
Slip, and tape
Some straps want a shorter bite at the shoulder. Some want a slight inward set so they do not wander. Strapless and barely-there necks often want tape on the night, a strip that stays on skin, tested in the fitting, not discovered in a restroom on I-Drive.
Bring the tape you already trust, if you have it. If you do not, say so when you write; it belongs in the fitting, not as an afterthought. A list of what to bring to the night lives under What to bring.
Bodice in two climates
The walk is warm. The ballroom is cold. A bodice that was taken in for the photograph can cling once the air-conditioning hits, and a strap that was loosened for humidity can gap in the cold room. The second look after the stitch has sat is where we catch that. Side seams, a back zipper, and strap length are the usual levers, the same family as a take-in, aimed at the shoulder instead of the waist.
If the dress is strapless, the conversation is still a bodice conversation: ease, lining, and whether tape is part of the night. Name that in the message.
